Hand Made Arts & Crafts

A rustic arm chair in Hickory and Silver Birch hardwood

newly completed. Here it is seen without any surface finishing of oil or beeswaxwax.

The final shade will be slightly darker. After the wax and oil have been applied the true beauty of the birch bark will become apparent and the figured grain of the Hickory seat much enhanced.

Beeswax and Walnut oil polish is used to preserve and enhance the surface of this rocking chair made from Ash, Beech and Hickory hardwoods. Nothing artificial is added to the wood surface, in fact it is edible polish. The wood is slow grown hardwood and all I do to it is to reveal what is beneath the outer layers and enhance them with elbow grease and an eye for its beauty. Remember that even if you are unlucky enough to scratch or stain the surface, beneath is layer upon layer of the same again, that can always be revealed if needs be.

Welsh Cat Back Chair & Curious Daschshund

Of English Oak and Ash hardwoods and made by hand in the tradition way of the artisan maker.

Both of these two chairs have found new homes to go to and are much admired.

I only make this type of furniture for my own amusement as speculative subjects. I am reluctant to undertake this type pf commission because my wood carving skills are sadly lacking.
